Sony announces Walkman NWZ series
From noise-cancellation for frequent travelers to affordability for customers on a budget, Sony today unveiled three new Walkman® players (series S, E and B) that have something to offer nearly every customer segment.
“Whether the fit and finish, the engineering or the integration of unique technologies, each of these new series has different points of appeal,” said Mitch Li, product manager for Walkman players in the Digital Imaging and Audio Division at Sony Electronics. “These new Walkman players satisfy the need of consumers who don’t want to sacrifice sound quality for the digital music and MP3 experience.”
S-Series Walkman Players
The top-end, format-friendly Walkman S-series broadens options for enjoying tunes from multiple sources, including many download stores and personal music collections. The supplied Content Transfer software even simplifies “drag and drop” transfer of non-DRM music, videos, podcasts and playlists from online music services to Walkman players. If you’re migrating your personal collection of ripped tracks from another MP3 player, there’s no need to re-rip all your tunes from your CDs.
Support for popular audio and video codecs is enhanced because the S-series Walkman devices play Windows Media Video (WMV) files with DRM, allowing you to enjoy rights-protected movies and video clips from other media collections.
Additionally, the S-series Walkman players are the first MP3 players with Sony’s SensMe™ Channels function, which automatically creates channels that can align with a user’s preferences. Based on Sony’s SensMe Channels function, the S-series players analyze a user’s music collection and suggest channels based on each song’s speed, mood and rhythm. They create a choice of 11 themed channels from upbeat pop to emotional ballads.
Whether commuting, flying high or just listening to music at home, the new S-series Walkman players help diminish background noise while improving your overall listening experience. The top-end S-series Walkman players feature integrated active noise cancellation with supplied 13.5mm EX noise canceling headphones and an accessory cable that extends the noise canceling functionality of the device. On airplanes, travellers can – for the first time – connect the S-series player directly to a plane’s audio video system with the included accessory cable and enjoy regular in-flight entertainment with the bonus of high-quality noise cancellation.
Just 7.5mm thin, the super-light S-series is the slimmest Walkman player in any of the new series. It has a bright, high-contrast 2-inch QVGA LCD screen (measured diagonally) that has an ultra-quick response time, with smooth playback at up to 30 frames per second and selectable horizontal/vertical viewing. The interface can be personalized with the user’s choice of 10 pre-installed wallpaper images or their favorite digital photo.
The E-series combines high-quality video and audio performance to create the perfect device for enjoying favorite photos and video clips. Like the S-series, all E-series models are format friendly, easily playing back ripped tracks from your personal music collection, music store downloads and rights-managed video clips. Non-DRM files can be transferred by “drag and drop” from online music services to Walkman players.
Support for popular audio and video codecs is enhanced because the E-series Walkman players can also support Windows Media Video (WMV) with DRM, allowing rights-protected movies and video clips from other media collections.
B-Series Walkman Players
The affordable entry-level Walkman B-series player offers the high-quality sound that users have come to expect from Sony. The ultra-portable devices can connect to your PC’s USB port for easy “drag and drop” file transfers. Like all other Walkman models, open support for Windows Media Audio (WMA) and MP3 codecs enables users to buy, copy and manage music to fit their needs.
The stylish design is enhanced by an illuminator that pulses in time with the music when the bass button is pressed. The device has an FM radio for enjoying favorite stations and a voice recorder that’s great for capturing memos, shopping lists or random thoughts while you’re on the move.
Battery Life
The battery life is up to 40 hours of music playback for S-series, up to 45 hours for the E-series and up to 16 hours for the B-series. The battery life is up to 10 hours of video playback for S-series, up to 8 hours for the E-series. The battery life is also up to 30 hours of audio playback for the S-series when the noise-cancellation feature is activated. Actual battery life may vary upon usage patterns, product settings, battery and environmental conditions.
Sony’s Open Platform Means More Choice
The E- and S-series Walkman players support an open platform, providing more choices for downloading and managing music and video collections online. The devices can support security-enhanced Windows Media Audio (WMA), as well as non-secure AAC, linear PCM and MP3 music formats plus JPEG files for photos, in addition to the WMV with DRM, AVC (H.264/AVC) Baseline Profile and MPEG-4 video codecs.

And do i need a 32 bit or 64 bit desktop? have any tips you can give me? anything else i need to know?
I’d prefer using Sony Vegas, it’s easy to use. Or you may try this video editor. I always use it to make and edit video for uploading to youtube. it’s cool. And here is a guide regarding how to use it

Sony Cybershot TX1 vs TX7?
I’m planning on buying a digital camera, and had narrowed it down to the Sony Cybershot TX1. But then I saw the TX7 on Sony’s site. It’s about $100 more expensive.
My question is, what are the major differences between the two models (TX1 and TX7), and which one is a better buy?
I would recommend you buying a Sony DSC-TX7 10.2MP CMOS Digital Camera with 4x Zoom with Optical Steady Shot Image Stabilization and 3.5 inch Touch Screen LCD

who is liable with my broken sony mp3 i bought in hongkong last june now that its broken?
last year 2005 i bought a sony mp3 in hongkong . it has no warranty card and on the reciept it indicates no written warranty . i was using it last march when it suddenly stopped playing. i brought it on sony service station in the philippines with the reciept and was assured by a staff that they accept sony electronics even if they were not bought in the country. but after 1 wk. i called them and was told that i should pay them $280 if i want them to repair it . they said that my warranty is not covered by them and if i really insist on the warranty i should bring it to hongkong. by the way ithe amount they are asking for the repair is more than the amount i bought it. what should i do? arent they supposed to fix it and just communicate with sony in hongko0ng since sony is an international company?
Well, sorry to say, its your problem… Sony is not going to help you out here… Just buy another one, but make sure you get the warranty info…

Pioneer Kuro 5020

Pioneer BDP-320 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player Reviews
I have a Pioneer BDP-320 blu-ray disc player connected to a Pioneer Kuro PDP-5020FD HDTV. Set-up was very fast with most of the parameters is automatic between the two Pioneer. The only manual I had to do with the BDP-320 has been set at the exit of Source Direct.
The Pioneer BDP-320 for de-interlacing was lower than the Kuro. Hot Fuzz, which I used as a test DVD and 320 products over the edges white Metropolitan Police logo on the jacket is black. Change Source Direct dispelled any artifacts and makes the best DVD picture on my Kuro yet. Some other materials on DVD (LOTR), I found the best image ever since the BDP-320 is upconverting and PDP-5020FD-east of the intersection. However, the BDP-320 offers the flexibility to get the best possible image of your installation.
The sound quality of the BD using the optical digital output is greatly improved over the DVD. There is a greater definition bass frequency, and it seems that sound investment is more clearly defined. These observations are subjective, but I was surprised to see the difference. This makes me more likely to upgrade my receiver to a newer model that is able to handle the loss of most audio formats HDMI.
Although the BDP-320 is my first BDP, from what I can say that is not a great improvement over the previous model BDP-51FD Pioneers. The owners are asking twice the load, the picture quality, sound quality DVDs and change the response level are almost identical. The improvement in the BDP-320 is a small frame, increasing the size of ROM (for engineers from Pioneer firmware so good for you), out-of-the-box for DTS HD MA, much compatibility and built in BD BD-Live is included with 1 GB of memory and LAN. I hope that the BDP-320′s biggest ROM allows future firmware updates for its past to push the performance of the BDP-51FD.
Both with The Dark Night with BD-Live
Power off to open the tray – 27s
Press the drawer next to the WB logo – 42s
Press plateau near the beginning of the film – 1m.53s
I am very happy with my purchase, but was surprised by the fact that the loading times not improved over the Pioneer BDP-51. (Okay, I was very pleased with the BDP-320, but the DVD layer change is not acceptable. The BDP-320 has been returned and Oppo BDP-83 is its replacement.)
The player of the quality of construction is solid and strong. The picture quality is the best I’ve seen on my PDP-5020. Any person who requires a lot of comic books has not improved on the DVD is not right. While the DVD looks nice, BD is significantly improved in both depth of color, black level, and simply having a higher pixel.
The BDP-320 long-PQ / SQ of DBP-51FD is one of the best players on the market. I suggest reading the comments of the BDP-51FD and taking into account the improvement of the BDP-320.

just amazing for the money
i bought a pair of these last yr after christmas to go with 2 more klh 8in towers just like this. they never really got used because i had one big stereo in my room that i used and that one with the 4 8s in the living room for movies and such. well i sold the rest of it and now i have the sonys hooked up up stairs in my room. the are excellent. i usually turn music up pretty loud and go down stairs so i can hear it all over the house. these speakers do great on the low mid and high end. i listen to rock and country. i throw it a rap song every once in a while for the bass and it sounds good no matter what u throw at it. dont expect the pounding bass from these speakers because u wont get it. it has great sound on the low end just not pounding. i have 2 12s and 2 15s i use for the pounding. the only thing i dont like about these sonys are the screw type things that hold the speakers in. the dont really have any grooves so u cant tighten or loosen them. since ive had them for a yr and have always had it up loud when i used it the mid in one of them has came a little loose and has a slight rattle when i turn it up. not a big deal, its the only con about these speakers

Kiss My IPOD, this blows a “docking station away”
I listened to my niece dance around with her IPOD Glee music and thought, damn. When I was a kid we had huge floor speakers that rattled the neighbors windows and summoned the police. She was happy with her docking station. I was UNHAPPY with her docking station, so… I found my old 200W stereo receiver I had since the 90s and bought these bad boy speakers. I could have gone for huge, but I just wanted to go big enough to blast her “docking station away”. She came knocking on my door to see what was booming and was blown away when I reached over and hit “pause” on my IPOD plugged into my receiver. That’s right, you can plug an IPOD into a 200W receiver and run these awesome speakers that are loud enough to run a house party. Don’t let the size on these fool you. They have the full sound of the old floorstanders of my youth and they sound awesome at low levels. The tweet, mid, & 8″ Woof do a song proper. Now, I know I’m not gonna get a 15″ Woof rattle like I had when I was younger, but my receiver has 7.1 surround, I can just add a powered Subwoofer If I want to. For now I’m satisfied my IPOD niece gotta taste of real home audio.

These speakers are a great bargain. Like the other reviews say the speakers are a little larger than normal bookshelf speakers, but if you know that going in, you will be pleased with the value they present. The sound is good and the price is great. Enjoy!

Very good sound and value
The speakers seem to be very well constructed and certainly sound well beyond the expectation, given the modest price. Of course they are not designed to compete with higher end speakers, yet the sound is really very good and I feel quite satisfied. Free shipment only attenuated my satisfaction.

Setting the bar
This is the second generation of this flavor of speakers I’ve owned for eight years now. I am convinced that you would have a very very hard time finding better speakers than these, and I hesitate to add “for the price” to that, because it makes it sound like, “Oh, this is the best you can get for $50-$100,” where in reality it’s more like “This is the best you can get for $400 (or $1000 if you’re stupid enough to fall for BOSE’s ‘better sound through marketing’ department).”
Back in college, I was an Audio and Acoustic Arts major at Columbia College Chicago who was looking for a solution to high fidelity audio on a student budget. On a trip to visit my grandma in St. Louis, I ended up finding a pretty decent pair of bookshelf speakers for $10 at a Goodwill. I couldn’t bring them back with me on the train, so I asked my grandma to mail them to me and I’d refund her the shipping costs. The shipping costs ended up being close to $100, so instead she donated them and bought me the 1st generation iteration of these speakers new online, which came out to be the same cost.
I am eternally grateful to my grandma’s stroke of luck here in picking out this set of speakers. I have pretty high demands for audio fidelity, and I was willing to sacrifice some of the standards I developed for audio editing with extremely high quality studio headphones just because you can’t really get the same thing from speakers, and willing to give up even more ground for the sake of expense. These speakers saved me a lot of agony by being extremely accurate and powerful. The frequency response curve on them is alarmingly even, and while there is definitely a floor to the bass, it’s well grounded, and is more than adequate for a huge range of use – college student dorm rooms, home theater setups, studio monitors, etc. The sound does get a bit flat when the volume is low, which is normal, and they really shine when they get LOUD. I paired my first set with a $20 Pioneer receiver I picked up from a Salvation Army, and it wasn’t the best (especially since I never sprang for heavy gauge wiring for them) but it was very good.
When I moved to Fairbanks, AK last year, I had to leave them behind, much to my chagrin. I shopped around a bit, and did some comparing in Sears and Best Buy and other stores, but was unable to find anything that came close to being both reasonably priced and acceptable in audio quality. I ended up buying a 2nd generation set of these on sale from Amazon, paired them with yet another $15 JVC amp from a Salvation Army, bringing me to a total of $85. I was pleasantly surprised to find that for the 2G’s they added a hole in the back of the case in a sort of subwoofer fashion, and I found that the holes do in fact push a LOT of air, and dropped the floor out of the old ones I had.
I’ve tested both pairs I’ve had extensively with a broad range of music – from Boston Acoustic bass tests, classical music, heavy metal, classic rock, alternative, piano, choral, solo vocal, electronic, folk, and everything in between – and have not had to give them anything less than a B+. I listen to several hours of music a day and it covers an equally broad spectrum of genres and instruments. These are simply excellent speakers and I’m glad to have them. Definitely invest in some heavier gauge wire (I picked up a roll of garden variety 14 AWG from Radio Shack), but don’t drop money bombs on Monster cables. Most of the extra money you spend on them goes towards marketing, not product quality or R&D. You should find that the pretty modest receivers and amps you can find at thrift stores tend to do a decent job of driving them, and if they don’t, you could buy ten lemons before you’re spending more on crap amps than the ludicrously priced things you can find at Circuit Cities an Best Buys (or on Amazon, to be fair). If I’m harping on the economics of the audio industry too much by this point it’s just because it has been my professional experience that it does NOT TAKE MONEY to make excellent loudspeakers and can take as much money as you’re willing to pay for bad ones. If you’re buying speakers for the average room for the average person, these speakers will satisfy your every need. If you’re doing high-end recording work, you shouldn’t be doing it on speakers anyways and shame on you. Get yourself some studio cans.
Happy listening!
