My laptop charger is very very bad, how do I fix it?
Hi, I’ve had my Toshiba L300-1Ai laptop just over a year and a half, now, and the charger has totally gone kaput. I’m pretty sure that the issue my charger has developed is the same as the one in my Sennheiser headphones, because it DOES work sometimes, but only after an awful lot of cable twisting. I do NOT want to hear that I need a replacement battery, I already know that I’ve totally fried mine, it IS the charger. Somewhere between the plug thing and the blob of something that comes after it (sorry, ever so vague!) the wire has mucked itself up. BEFORE I pay £31.99 for the only compatible replacement I can find, does anyone know if it is fixable or if one of these “universal” chargers I’ve been hearing about would work?
I’ve actually ordered a new charger for less than £10, now. I never wind the cable up nad I’m sorry about my vague description, but I’m a fraid I don’t have x-ray vision and can’t see the inside on the cable. Thanks, anyway!
If you’ve been winding the cable tightly round the body then the cable will probably have developed a fault. A competent person with a soldering iron could probably sort it out – if they can get the case open to replace the whole cable.

Sony Bravia Vpl-Hw10 Sxrd Projector Reviewed
Having made a sensational debut on the truly remarkable but also hideously expensive Qualia 004 projector back in 2004, Sony’s SXRD technology has slightly struggled to get down to a truly mass market price level. The nearest we’ve got to date is the £2,000 or so VPL-VW40, checked out back in May. But today that price is about to be trumped pretty convincingly by Sony’svery latest SXRD offering, the VPL-HW10.
At around the £1,500 mark, this projector should finally make SXRD technology genuinely competitive with decent Full HD LCD and DLP projectors. Plus, of course, it puts more clear blue water between SXRD and its closest rival technologically, JVC’s D-ILA projectors, which start around the £2,900 mark for the ground-breaking DLA-HD1.
What makes the HW10 particularly exciting, though, is the amount of features Sony has managed to get into it without pushing the price higher – including the ‘intriguing’ MotionFlow processing first discovered on Sony’s high-end VPL-VW200 projector.
MotionFlow comprises two elements, both individually adjustable within the onscreen menus: Film Projection, and Motion Enhancement. Of these the latter is the most straightforward, as it’s simply Sony’s take on the idea of inserting extra, newly calculated frames of image data to make movement in the picture look more fluid and sharp.
Film Projection is much less straightforward, but by and large what it tries to do is insert ‘blank’ frames of image data in a bid to recreate the 24fps sensation of watching a film in the cinema. In doing so, it boosts contrast and, interestingly, reduces the appearance of judder, since it gives your eyes time to blend one frame into the next.
Also impressive to find at the HW10′s price point is Sony’s Real Colour Processing, a remarkably (for a £1500 product) sophisticated toolkit for fine-tuning colours to within an inch of their lives. The way it works is by letting you adjust the red, green, blue, yellow, magenta and cyan colour elements in the picture on an individual basis, using an adjustable ‘pie-chart’ interface that allows you to expand a particular colour’s range and/or position in the colour spectrum.
While you’re using it, this system cunningly knocks out of the image you’re watching every other colour than the one you’re trying to adjust. And so if you’re tweaking the red element, the picture is black and white except for where there’s a red element in the picture. This may look rather creepy at times, but it’s a truly inspired way of allowing you to see precisely what impact your adjustments are having. We should say that we don’t recommend messing about with RCP unless you’re pretty confident about what you’re doing, but that doesn’t make it any less worthwhile as a feature.
Sony’s imaginative approach to user interfaces can be seen, too, with the MPEG noise reduction system the HW10 carries. For this allows you to pick your preferred block noise and mosquito noise combination by shifting a point along a ‘graph’ where Block NR runs along the horizontal axis and Mosquito noise runs up the vertical axis. The beauty of this system is that it lets you pinpoint much more accurately the setting where either or both noise reduction routines go from aiding to actually spoiling the picture.

I have a Sony CX100 camcorder, but I can’t get it to save in Full HD on my computer.?
I use PMB (supplied software) to upload on my computer, but it can’t save anything above 640×480 in WMV.

Don’t use the supplied software. Your camera records as MPEG4 AVC/H.264 (AVCHD) SD: MPEG2. All you need to do it copy the video files from the camera to a folder on your hard drive. You may have to use the supplied software to facilitate the process. Look through the software menus for a save (to file) setting. Once you have your video files saved, you can use another video editing program to edit, etc. Not all video editing programs work with MPEG4 AVC/H.264. You will have to convert it to say, mpeg first.
BTW: You may have had your camera set to record as in standard definition (SD) and that may be why the video only saves in 640×480. Also, .WMV is not ideal for editing videos and such.

Windows Mobile Smartphone Showdown – Sony Ericsson X1 Vs Htc Touch Pro
Smartphones are cropping up more and more in 2008. Since the launch of the next-gen iPhone 3G, more mobile phones are waking up and smelling the coffee: the user experience is the key to winning over mobile phone users. Which means we get mobile phones such as the Sony Ericsson X1 and the HTC Touch Pro, both top-end smartphones, and both built around the same floor plan. But… which one is the superior?
HTC Touch Pro – Steamy Windows
HTC have long made Windows Mobile phones, super-powered devices running on Microsoft’s mobile software. Over time, we’ve seen many form factors, some with, some without touchscreens, and each of those high-end mobile phones was super powered, due to the inclusion of Windows. There was one thing though… you couldn’t argue that Windows Mobile was the sexiest, or the easiest operating system ever seen.
Well things are different now, thanks to the HTC Touch Pro, that should really be called the Windows Mobile phone, where you can’t tell it’s running Windows Mobile. That’s down to HTC’s TouchFLO 3D interface, that sits on the Windows software, and gives you a jazzy, funky, and let’s be totally honest, iPhone-esque experience. It is a proper joy to use, and as with most touchscreen phones nowadays, it’s designed primarily for touch controls. So, you prod the screen on the HTC Touch Pro using a finger, not a stylus. In terms of features, it’s good, too, with 3 megapixel camera, HSDPA, WiFi, integrated GPS and a completely awesome slide-out QWERTY keyboard. It really is a stunning mobile phone, and I’ll be honest, it’s difficult to imagine another Windows Mobile phone even coming close.
Well, until you see the Sony Ericsson X1…
Sony Ericsson X1 – premium looks, premium power
Based on the same hardware setup as the HTC Touch Pro, the Sony Ericsson X1 is their first EVER Windows Mobile phone. That’s a heck of a thing to live up to, and it’d be even worse if it was just a carbon copy of the HTC Touch Pro.
It isn’t though…
Put the two together, and you’d be hard pressed to tell they’re even related at all.
You see, where the HTC Touch Pro goes for a glossy finish and slick, shiny faces, the Sony Ericsson X1 goes for brushed metal, and premium materials. And boy does it make the two mobile phones look different. The Sony Ericsson is easily the more classy-looking device, and, thanks to the metal finish, less of a fingerprint magnet, too. There’s a couple more noticeable differences, too, starting with the screen, as the Sony Ericsson X1 has a 3-inch widescreen, trumping the HTC Touch Pro. If you look at the QWERTY keyboard, you’ll see a big difference in the design of these two mobile phones, as well, since the Sony Ericsson is built using a unique ‘arc slider’ design. In other words, when you slide it open, the screen tilts, as well, making it easier to type and see the screen simultaneously. That’s not been seen on any other mobile phones before, and it really does set the Sony Ericsson apart from the HTC Touch Pro. Hardware-wise, they share the same features, the camera, the HSDPA, the GPS, and of course, they both run on Windows Mobile, but again, the Sony Ericsson X1 has its own interface glued on top (the panels interface), and once again, it’s a stunner. That’s why, in the battle between the Sony Ericsson X1 and the HTC Touch Pro, the Sony Ericsson takes the crown.

I recently bought a Sony portable dvd player and would like to be able to watch my iPod touch videos or movies on it. Does anyone know if there is any cable I can buy that does that? The regular AV Cable doesn’t fit (it is for TV). That being said, the composite cables that Apple sales don’t fit either. Please help!
You need the separate A/V cables for each device, and a coupler to connect the two.

Pioneer Receiver Car
Advice on new car cd receiver needed?
I am a complete newbie when it comes to car sound…So I have a few basic questions:
Right now I have a really old cd player in my car. I want to get good new one but don’t want to spend over $150.
What should I look for in a new cd player? I would like my sound to be a little louder and a bit clearer.
For example should I go for the highest RMS x channels? There is a nice Pioneer unit which has 22RMS, for $140, but then I also saw a sony unit for around $160 but it only has 17RMS. So will the pioneer be much better than the sony, or do different things influence the power and sound quality?
I would like the receiver to have a usb adapter on it. Right now I am looking at:

RMS per channel is not gonna matter coming from the head unit. they all max out around 20 watts. U will need to get an amp to really push if thats what u are looking for. Just choose the one with the best features u are looking for. The sound is gonna really depend on what type of door speakers u have in the car. U can replace them if u still have the factory speakers and u will get much better quality.
